USB 3 ports are in a USB-A shape-the traditional USB shape you’re probably familiar with. But the port also supports external hard drives and other storage devices with faster speeds than USB, FireWire, and Thunderbolt 1 ports. With the same shape as the Mini DisplayPort, and supporting Mini DisplayPort video output, Thunderbolt 2 took the form factor a lot further by supporting 4K video streaming and writing 4K video to a disk while the video streamed.įor these reasons, Thunderbolt 2 is best known for connecting external monitors and cameras to a MacBook.

You may not need this port if you prefer Bluetooth headphones, but for those who still enjoy cords, or noise-canceling features, it’s nice to see this port stick around.Ģ012 to 2016 MacBook Air (this Mac doesn't have a HDMI) It also connects built-in microphones on headphones and earbuds as well. The only other port on these MacBook models is the 3.5mm jack, allowing for headphones to be used with a Mac. If anyone has a solution, ideally I would like to partition the card into 2 segments - 1 of which I'd like to encrypt so I can keep a copy of some work files with me and the other which i can just use for some tv shows etc, however, if that is not possible I'd just keep it to one unencrypted file and continue to bring my work stuff along on USB when necessary. You'll find these ports on the following MacBook models: I am left wondering if 200Gb exceeds the SD card slot's limits? I have also tried partitioning it into smaller segments with no success too.

I've tried formatting it into Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Fat32 and to Exfat with no success (it will format but computer still won't write to it). If I plug it into my desktop iMac, it works fine as well. If I take the micro sd card out of the Nifty adapter and put it into the USB adapter that was supplied with it, there is no problem. Recently I upgraded it to a 200GB model to enable me to load up some extra videos for when I travel and regardless of what I try, I can not get my laptop to write to it. I know that SD is not really a permanent solution, but I just keep high res pics and videos on there that I need to use from work and I do have them backed up elsewhere. I was running a bit low on HDD space so I bought an SD based nifty drive 128GB and its been running that fine. I have a MacBook Air - I can't remember which year but I think its around 2014ish - it reports itself as MacBookAir6,2 Core i7.
